Volunteers
Volunteers contribute to the success of the Home.
We encourage community involvement and attempt to strengthen the association between the residents and the surrounding community. Relatives, friends, volunteers and children are especially welcome. Family pets are also welcome at Mill Creek Care Centre; all pets must have been properly vaccinated, housebroken and leashed.
Efforts are made to involve residents in the local community, by both inviting community groups, schools, centers and agencies to visit the Home and by planning community outings. Volunteers are always needed to help organize programs and provide individual services.
Your first step is to download the Volunteer Application form and submit the completed form to the Programs Manager at Mill Creek Care. You will then be contacted to book an interview where we will discuss your needs and the volunteer opportunities that are available. Once your placement has been assigned you will then be required to:
- Attend an orientation session
- Provide applicable screening information (references and a police reference check)
- Complete a 2-step Mantoux (TB) Test or a chest x-ray as per physician’s direction
- We will then provide training and ongoing support for your volunteer role
Volunteer Opportunities include:
- Friendly Visiting
- Pastoral Services
- Recreation Programs
- Rehabilitation Programs
- Cultural Programs

Student Volunteer Program: (16 Years of Age or Older)
Join our team and gain valuable work experience! Student volunteers generally work 1-3 hours per week as their school work permits. Good communication skills, commitment and teamwork are essential skills for a volunteer.
Students must be at least 16 years old to apply as a volunteer and are required to make a commitment for their program choice. Mill Creek Care Centre offers student volunteers placements during the school year or during the summer. Please download the application form and submit the form to the Programs Manager. Student Volunteers will also need to complete a 2-step Mantoux (TB) Test or a chest x-ray as per physician’s direction prior to the commencement of your placement.
Student Field Practicum: (College or University Level)
Mill Creek Care Centre provides students with an intensive and challenging learning experience through a student placement program. Whether you are a nursing, social work, activation, dietitian or an administration student, our homes will work with you to meet your learning needs during your student placement.
We request that your education institution make the initial contact with us when securing a student placement.
